Austin Impeach and Peace Mega-March & Rally
September 15, 2007 -- 2:00 PM
Austin City Hall to Texas Capitol

Contacts: Dr. Doug Reber, 512- 669-2654, doug_reber@yahoo.com, Co-Chair, The Green Party of Texas
Tom Davis, 512-443-0918, tmd@tom-davis.org, Treasurer, Travis County Green Party

Our nation is in constitutional crisis, and Austin Impeach is calling for a "Clean Sweep" of the increasingly unlawful administration that has betrayed us into an unwarranted conflict, has destabilized the entire Middle East, has grossly engorged the power of the presidency, has assumed control of all branches of government, and is working tirelessly, with its grinding deadly incompetence, to destroy government itself and replace it with global capitalism. On the evidence of Iraq, New Orleans, and much, much more, Austin Impeach urges the many Austinites who know we can't wait another eighteen months to clean up this mess to gather and march for peace and impeachment on Saturday, September 15. The demonstration has been planned in solidarity with the national Mass March to Stop the War in Washington, DC, and other events across the nation on that date.

Austin Impeach has asked our City Council to join more than 80 cities and counties nationwide (http://www.impeachpac.org/resolutions-list) in passing a resolution urging the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and has placed a petition toward that goal at http://www.austinimpeach.org/

The group will wrap up its two-week "Bring the Impeachment & Peace Movement to the Media's Front Door" campaign with a demonstration at the Austin American-Statesman office at 1:20 p.m., proceeding on the sidewalk to City Hall for a 2:00 program. At 3:00 participants will march to the Texas State Capitol, where a second program will be presented. Scheduled speakers and performers are David Van Os, Carolyn Wonderland's band, Colin Pace of CAMEO, Tom Davis of Veterans for Peace and the Travis County Green Party, NOKOA editor Akwasi Evans, Katie Feyh of ISO, Leslie Cunningham of Texas Labor Against the War, Hart Viges of Iraq Vets Against the War, Hadi Jawad, chair of End the Occupation of Iraq and co-founder of the Crawford Peace House, and Dr. Doug Reber of Austin Impeach and the Green Party of Texas. The Walls of Jericho Brass Band will lead the march, which will include CodePink's "Sweep out the War Criminals" demonstration, and Instruments 4 Peace -- featuring the electric guitar of Barbara 'K' Kooyman (Timbuck 3 co-founder) , Richard Bowden on violin, and the songs of Bill Oliver -- will play at the Capitol.

Marchers, speakers, and musicians call for:
(1) Congressional commitment that this nation will not further deplete its forces and resources for this illegal, immoral, and insane aggression against Iraq or for Cheney's daily more threatened invasion of Iran.
(2) Congressional action to impeach, try, and convict George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for the many "high crimes and misdemeanors" they have committed while in office.
(3) Adoption by the Austin City Council of a resolution urging the impeachment of both officials.

Details on the event, the impeachment process, and rationale for impeaching both officials are at http://www.austinimpeach.org/

AustinImpeach is a coalition created by the Austin chapter of "World Can't Wait" [www.austincantwait.org], CodePink Austin [www.codepinkaustin.com], and the Texas and Travis County Green Parties [www.txgreens.org & www.traviscountygreens.org]. Our objectives are to raise citizens' consciousness about the crimes of the Bush/Cheney administration, including and especially the illegal war in Iraq, and to demand the impeachment and conviction of both.
