RE: Demo 26 February 2004 at HCCS Board
-----------------------------------------------
Dear Raza,

Attached you will find a copy of a position paper that Houston TACHE and leaders of other organizations have developed to demand that corrective action be taken by the board of trustees and the Chancellor to stop the culture of abuse that has developed throughout the HCC system. The culture of retaliation, discrimination, harassment, and denial of fair and equal job opportunities has been embraced by many administrators in the Human Resources (HR) department and throughout HCCS.

In spite of numerous Houston TACHE and HCCS employee presentations before the board of trustees, and numerous complaints and grievances against HR and other administrators, the retaliation, discrimination, harassment, and denial of equal and fair job opportunities continue.

On Thursday, February 26, members of Houston TACHE, the National Council of La Raza, LULAC, NAACP, Houston Hispanic Forum, various community leaders, and HCCS faculty and staff will hold a protest demonstration at 3100 Main @ Elgin. The protest will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will continue until the HCCS board of trustees meeting is called to order, at between 4:00 - 4:30 p.m., at which time two community leaders will speak before the board.

Houston TACHE asks that you and your colleagues attend the protest, the board meeting, or both. We are reaching out for your help. The call has sounded! It is time for action! We can all make excuses for not getting involved, but if not you...who? And if not now...when? United we stand and divided we fall. Let's send a clear message to the board of trustees and the Chancellor. Be there on Feb. 26, and make a difference.

Que Viva La Raza!!
