Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Last Friday (February 18, 2005), two constables from Harris County Precinct 1 killed a 52-year-old man by shocking him with a Taser. As the Houston Chronicle reported, the constables had been dispatched to serve a “mental health commitment” warrant on the man. When he resisted, the officers delivered the Taser shocks several times. The man died later in a nearby hospital. This is the fourth death of an unarmed individual at the hands of local law enforcement officials so far this year. How many more people have to die before we hold police, deputies, and constables accountable for their actions?

Join us for an emergency demonstration on Monday, February 28, at 4:30 pm, at the Harris County Criminal Justice Center, 1201 Franklin St. in Houston. Let us raise our voices together to demand an end to the deaths of our brothers and sisters in the community—and some real accountability by law enforcement personnel. This event is sponsored by Civilians Down, ACLU—Houston, and the Progressive Workers Organizing Committee. For more information, please contact Randall at (713) 320-3785 or David at (832) 692-2306.

In Solidarity,

Rona and David
