day:
Martin Luther King, Jr's Birthday celebrated with a day off,
and ONE original Parade
that honors his legacy.
Harris County Green Party will be participating in
the Black Heritage Society's "Original" Martin Luther
King, Jr. Day Parade, which will take place at 2:00 pm, Monday,
January 19, 2009, starting at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard
and Griggs Rd. (Palm Center), and ending at MacGregor Park,
where there will be festivities including music and other fun.
Prior to that time, there will be a sidewalk-march from
the I-610 South Loop area of M. L. King Blvd. northward to Palm
Center (c.1.4km, a little less than a mile), beginning at noon.
This is a pedestrian-only march, no floats, just hand-held signs
or banners (assume you will pass through areas as little as
two meters wide).
The parade turning out of Palm Center will turn north on
M.L. King Blvd., and after crossing Old Spanish Trail, the parade
will complete a 1600-meter (one mile) journey as it turns left
into MacGregor Park,
