[O]ur candidates will need to file applications for nomination by the January 2nd deadline, even though we won't officially be on the ballot until after the petition drive ends in May. Note that all applications for state office are filed with me, the state party co-chair, not the Secretary of State's office.
Green Party candidates for state office need to file a Petition for Nomination
by ____________ Convention of _____________ with me at my home address, 1019
E. 25th St., Houston, Texas 77009, or at GPTX headquarters, 818 W. 31st St.,
Houston, Texas 77018. This legal size form is available on the SOS's Website
at
http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/index.shtml.
[You may also get it here
in PDF format, Adobe Acrobat required.]
If the office sought represents a district that is wholly situated in a county, the filer puts the word "County" in the first blank. If the office sought represents a district that covers more than one county, the filer puts the word "District" in the first blank. If the office sought is a statewide office (there are only 7 that will be up for election next year, and 6 of them are judicial races), then the filer puts "State" in the first blank. Every filer should put the work "Green" or "Green Party" in the second blank.
The forms need to be notarized as well. That means the applicant needs to sign it IN FRONT OF A NOTARY PUBLIC.
[W]e should have as many candidates in as many races as we can. Democracy only works if we participate.
Sincerely,
Steve Agan
Co-Chair, Green Party of Texas
