Volunteers
Needed
The following
volunteer possibilities are available in the Harris County Green Party
2010 election campaign. The main goal of the campaign is to advance
the transformation to grass-roots democracy by blockwalking to recruit
Green Party members and Green voters in the 2010 election cycle. Training
will be given for all volunteering opportunities. This is an exciting
and meaningful effort with results that extend beyond November. Join
us!
blockwalker
Blockwalking teams have fun meeting people and presenting green ideas
with door-to-door contact. Blockwalkers will generally work with a team
in a specific precinct. The information that blockwalkers collect is
key to the 2010 campaign to spread the green message and build a green
movement. This is exciting and rewarding involvement with the citizens
of our community. We need lots of blockwalking volunteers.
tabler
Tablers meet people at a specific location, such as a civic club or
public event. Tablers meet and greet people, presenting green ideas
and collecting information. This is fun and rewarding volunteering.
leafletter
Leafleting teams deliver informational literature door to door, normally
without meeting people. This is an important and rapid way to get out
the green message to the community.
campus
greens liaison
The Campus Greens Liaison keeps in contact with the various Harris County
Campus Greens organizations. The liaison uses HCGP resources to support
the Campus Greens and coordinates Green Party involvement in Campus
Greens events.
field
coordinator
The field coordinator plays a crucial role in the 2010 campaign. The
field coordinator builds a volunteer team from the Green Party database.
The team then organizes blockwalks in selected precincts. The coordinator
ensures the follow-up on all green-friendly contacts, charts team progress,
and builds team spirit. A very rewarding volunteer opportunity.
assistant
field coordinator
The assistant field coordinator assists in all areas of field coordination.
Specifically, s/he keeps lists and records and ensures that volunteers
are notified of blockwalking times and places. A great way to help and
learn.
event
coordinator
The event coordinator will utilize campaign events, civic clubs, candidate
forums, etc. to set up tabling or leafleting for green-friendly contacts
and potential green voters. The event coordinator will work with other
coordinators to build a team of volunteers. The event coordinator will
help coordinate the needs of Green Party candidates. This volunteering
will allow you to be involved in the community and in the middle of
an exciting election.
media
coordinator
The media coordinator and his/her assistants will work with local and
community media (newspaper, radio, Internet, publications, etc.) to
get out information about green ideas and candidates through press releases,
editorials, articles, and the like. This is a creative part of a campaign.
speaker
coordinator
The speaker coordinator will help organize and assign volunteers to
give speeches prepared by the literature committee. Volunteers will
be recruited and trained with the help of other coordinators. The speaker
coordinator will investigate events and organizations desiring campaign
speakers and will coordinate with Green Party candidates. This is a
powerful way to get out the green message.
associate
fund-raiser
The associate fund-raiser will assist the treasurer in all areas of
finance. Fund-raisers will follow up on donor contacts, give information
on fund-raising parties, create new fund-raising ideas, and develop
donor lists and mailouts. The associate fund-raiser will assist with
tracking and reporting contribution progress. This important activity
has rewarding results critical to the campaign.
new
chapter liaison
The new chapter liaison will contact Greens in counties adjacent to
Harris. The liaison will coordinate involvement with the HCGP campaign
to provide experience for out-of-county organizers. S/he will encourage
the development of new chapters. This effort will expand the influence
of green ideas in Texas.
