The Harris County Green Party has endorsed a diverse slate of 11 candidates for Houston city and school district offices in the Nov. 4 elections.

The platforms of these candidates reflect the key values of social justice, grass-roots democracy, ecology, and nonviolence that guide the Green Party and thousands of voting Houstonians. While city elections are nonpartisan and these are not Green Party candidates, they support such policies as health care for all, criminal-justice reform, and increased community participation in education that will benefit all of Houston.

The Green Party urges support for the following candidates:

-- Jolanda Jones, City Council, At Large, Position 3
-- Sue Lovell, City Council, At Large, Position 4
-- Dennis Carter, City Council, District A
-- Malaki Sims, City Council, District C
-- Ada Edwards, City Council, District D (incumbent)
-- Annise Parker, City Controller
-- Iris Williams, HISD Board, District 2
-- Michael Gomez, HISD Board, District 3
-- Alice Pradia and Dr. G. San Miguel, HISD Board, District 4
-- Dr. Joseph Rodriguez, HISD Board, District 8

All candidates at Monday's news conference will be available to field reporters' questions.
