Answers to the Green Screen for Endorsement

1. Do you believe the Green Party can make a useful contribution to American political life? How?

Yes. A viable grassroots Party will help bring back the community spirit of civics. With the current voter apathy and incredibly low voter turnout, our democracy needs an impetus to bring politics back to the people. The Green Party can become that impetus and bridge the gap between big money politics and average citizens.

2. Please briefly discuss how your issue promotes the Ten Key Values.

The Texas Ethics Commission does not enforce the law on politicians the way other agencies enforce the law on citizens. The basis for Grassroots Democracy is that the government is not above the law. By not enforcing the law, the TEC is prohibiting a true representative grassroots democracy, which endangers all other reforms that rely on the grassroots movement and a representative body politic. The Ten Key Values all rely on a close connection between politicians and their constituents. Without enforcing campaign laws, our government takes a giant step back from that relationship, and a giant step towards those that finance their campaigns.

No. Campaigns for People is a non-partisan, non-profit group dealing solely with campaign finance reform.
